In October 1995, I was sexually assaulted when I was in college. Ten years after that, I found my voice and started writing and speaking about sexual assault in general and the high incidence on college campuses.
I am starting my second term as President of the SAAFE House Board of Directors. In my work on the board, I am supporting the agency in a time of growth, helping with fundraising, and offering my leadership when it is needed. It is my way to give back to an organization who was on the other end of the phone when I needed someone to listen after my assault in 1995.
Every April, I take on as many speaking events as I can to raise awareness during SAAM (Sexual Assault Awareness Month). I have shared my story at University of Houston, University of Houston, Downtown, Lone Star College, and Sam Houston State University.
